Yes, it is important to us that our products are made in Quebec.
Are your products tested on animals?
Souris Verte products are not tested on animals because the ingredients used have long since been recognized as being non allergenic.
Do Souris Verte products contain gluten?
Our products do not contain any gluten.
What is the lifespan of your products?
Liquid extracts = 600 drops
Creams = depending on quantity / day. On average 2 years.
Are the Souris Verte cream jars recyclable?
The jars can be dropped off in the recycle bin after having removed the salve even if the logo is not on the jar.
Why do the liquid extracts have to be refrigerated?
After being opened, the liquid extracts (like food) are better preserved in the refrigerator until its expiration date. However, they can be kept at room temperature up to 2 weeks.
There are particles in my liquid extract, is it still good?
The liquid extracts are made of plant extracts. Even if the extract has been filtered, airborne particles are always present and settle with time.
This does not affect the quality of the product: shake well before using.
Is it better to give liquid extracts drops before or after nursing?
It is better to give the drops before nursing (if it's vitamin: Wintertime Tonic, Echinacea, Herbal Syrup, Teething, Calmherb) except in the case of Colic. It is preferable to give it after nursing as it helps digestion.
As prevention during this winter season, what liquid extract would be the most appropriate to fortify the immune system ? Echinacea or Wintertime Tonic?
Both of them are good. On the other hand, the Wintertime Tonic contains 3 more plants as well as 2 Echinaceas (but their concentration is inferior). I would opt for the latter if it's not taken strictly for a cold.
I have an 18-month old child with frequent ear infections. As soon as the antibiotic prescription is finished, the ear infections come back. Even 3 weeks after having an operation for ear tubes and removal of adenoids, the ear infections start again.
What can I do?
Doctors often forget to tell their patients to take probiotic products (yogurt) a few hours before or after taking antibiotics.
Antibiotics destroy intestinal flora (good as well as bad bacteria) and when your children finish their antibiotic treatment, their intestinal flora is gone and they are at the mercy of any bad bacteria which with a normal intestinal flora would not proliferate.
The Wintertime Tonic or Echinacea would be ideal complements but intestinal flora must be restored.
Can I give Colic and Calmherb simultaneously to my baby?
It is suggested to give Colic before the milk and Calmherb after the milk.
The suggested dosage is according to the weight: 1 drop for each 2 kg. No more than 6 drops per day for children under 12 months.
Can the Wintertime Tonic and the Herbal Syrup be taken at the same time?
For the two liquid extracts, there is no definite moment. However, I would recommend to take the Wintertime Tonic before meals as it is a stimulus and the Herbal Syrup after for the cough.
My child is asthmatic, can he take the Herbal Syrup?
The Herbal Syrup helps to clear the respiratory tract: This should help the child.
Can my child take the Herbal Syrup while taking antibiotics (earache)?
Yes, he can take his antibiotic before or after. The waiting time is 2 hours between each intake.
The Herbal Syrup contains honey, is there a danger of contamination by the botulinal toxin (Clostridium botulinum)?
The honey that we use does not contain toxins and is analyzed according to Health Canada's recommendations. It is completely safe for even a child under 1 year-old.
I would like to know if I can give the Herbal Syrup to my 1 month-old tiny tot since he has a cold and coughs all the time?
Yes, you can give 1 drop of Herbal Syrup per 2 kg of the child's weight, 3 to 6 times per day.
Can Echinacea be used during pregnancy and nursing?
Health Canada's monograph does not indicate any warning on Echinacea concerning pregnant or nursing women. Health Canada considers that the product is safe.
Can I use Echinacea for a six week old child?
Echinacea is recommended for babies 3 months and older. IMPORTANT: Children 3 to 6 months: Maximum 3 doses per day.
When is the best time to give the Wintertime Tonic?
In the morning: the child might be more in contact with germs during the day (daycare) than at night (home).
My child has frequent colds, how should I administer the Wintertime Tonic?

Recommended dosage: 1 drop per 2 kg.

In our guide, the prevention posology is one dose per day, 6 days a week, 3 weeks per month. Whereas for protection, it's one dose, 3 times per day, for one week.

In prevention it is a smaller posology per day for a longer period. For protection, the daily dosage is higher on a shorter period when the child is in contact with other children who have a cold.

My child is allergic to pollen, can he take the Wintertime Tonic which contains propolis?
Pollen comes from flowers and propolis is produced by bees. There is a good chance that the propolis may be contaminated by pollen. It is preferable not to give it to the child.
I am a nursing mother, may I take the Wintertime Tonic while nursing?
And for how long may I take it?
For a 2-year old child, for how long may I give him the Wintertime Tonic?
The Wintertime Tonic is contra-indicated during pregnancy (The angelica provokes or facilitates menstruation) and nursing.
It is not recommended to take the Wintertime Tonic during the first 6 months. It can be started between six and 12 months, but not on a continuous basis. I recommend Echinacea if there is a cold problem.
The Teething makes my 2 year old child nauseous, can I dilute it in a beverage like water or milk without losing its effects?
Yes, you can dilute the Teething with water, juice or milk without any problem.
Dosage: 1 drop per kilo.
May I rub my child's gums with Teething?
The clove found in Teething should relieve sore gums. Depending on the pain, it should be effective.
How long can I give Teething to my baby?
It should be given according to posology as soon as the gums start to ache (or when the cheeks start to redden, which is a precursory sign of a new tooth). Stop treatment when the pain is gone. There is no specific period.
Can Calmherb help to go to sleep at night?
Yes, there is no problem.
What is recommended for a child who has problems concentrating?
I would recommend Calmherb as a treatment.
My child suffers from car sickness, what can I give him?

Calmherb: Calms emotional tension.
Colic: Relieves upset stomach.

We do not carry specially formulated products for car sickness (motion sickness). However, ginger is often recommended for people suffering from motion sickness. Colic product contains ginger and is acknowledged to relieve upset stomach.

My baby has secretions since birth, chokes often, has nausea and regurgitates a lot. What do you recommend?
I recommend Colic.
The reason is that its traditional herb formula is recognized to relieve children's colic. It improves digestion, relieves upset stomach, calms flatulence and painful spasms.
Can be given as prevention or if need be.
If baby does not improve, consult your pediatrician.
What is the posology for Colic?

Adults : 90 drops (3 ml)
14 - 18 years old : 45 drops
7 - 14 years old s : 30 drops
4 - 7 years old : 23 drops
3 - 4 years old : 15 drops
2 - 3 years old : 11 drops
1 - 2 years old : 6 drops
Under 1 year old : 1 drop par 2 kg of weight.

Take with some water, 2 to 6 times daily.

My baby takes Colic, can it cause constipation?
We have consulted our innocuousness file (warnings and contraindication) and nowhere is it mentioned that that the ingredients of this formulation can cause constipation.
Does the FDA warning concerning star anise apply to Colic?

The traditional references consulted (ESCOP 1997, WHO 2007 and Blumental et al 1998) give as precaution:

  1. Consult if symptoms persist.
  2. There is no know contraindication. However persons allergic to anis and anethole should avoid the product.
  3. There is no known medicinal interaction.

However, WHO 2007 has specific warnings for the anise essential oil but not for the seeds (used in the product).

In there was the slightest danger, Health Canada would require us to remove the product immediately.
We use "Pimpinella anisumL" (anise) and not "Illicium verumL." (star anise).

So, this does not apply to our product.

Is Boo-Boo Cream recommended for children under 10 years old.
Boo-Boo Cream is good at any age, also recommended for adults.
Some Boo-Boo Cream was smeared on my 9 month old baby' s cheek while I was nursing him, is the propolis (honey) harmful if he swallowed any?
There is no problem, safe for children.
I am actually treating eczema with Boo-Boo Cream. Since I am nursing and the blotches are on my breasts, I was wondering if there were contraindication?

As is, the product is not harmful but here are a few tips so that is does not affect the taste of milk::

  1. Apply after nursing
  2. Thoroughly clean nipple and surrounding area before nursing.

By following these recommendations, Boo-Boo Cream will have the time to work its beneficial effects and its active ingredients of being well absorbed.

Is Herbozinc Cream suitable for mom's hemorrhoids?
Herbozinc Cream protects inflamed skin and the zinc promotes skin healing. It is not appropriate, as is, for hemorrhoids because these are broken blood vessels.
Does Herbozinc Cream damage washable diapers?
No, zinc does not damage washable diapers, it is rather diarrhoeal acid of the child. The zinc forms a protective barrier against diarrhoeal acid and keeps baby's bottom dry.

However, it is highly recommended to use a sheet in t he washable diaper in order to avoid that de zinc (wich creates a water-repellent barrier) comes in contact with the washable diaper.

Otherwise, we suggest a good alternative:
If my Herbozinc Cream is expired, is it still good?
Yes, but the % of zinc decreases with time.
What do you suggest for eczema?
Eczema is essentially a skin inflammation which is not caused by infection. It is also called dermatitis. This problem may be temporary or chronic. I would recommend Herbozinc Cream.
My health specialist advises me against lavender essential oils because it may induce contractions. If I am pregnant, can I use the Body Butter even if it contains lavender essential oils?

Lavender oil contains between 15 and 30% camphor, the irritant element.
The oil must be taken orally during pregnancy et can be irritating for concentrations of 1 to 30%. The Shea Body Butter contains 1,1% lavender oil: so very minor possibility of irritation and practically impossible of being absorbed to the uterus.

The specialist did give a correct advice but did not know the concentration of the product.

Are the white dots on the surface of the Body Butter normal?
Even if the container is new .
It happens, once in a while, that the shea butter (22%) congeals a bit faster than the mix (other ingredients) when it cools down. This does not alter the quality of Shea Body Butter since when it is applied, the ingredients will be absorbed by the skin and will be just as effective.
I want to know if the Body Butter is edible; if I apply some on my breasts and nurse, will it be harmful for my baby?

As is, the product is not harmful but here are a few tips so that the Body Butter does not affect the taste of milk:

  1. Apply after nursing.
  2. Thoroughly wash nipple and surrounding area before nursing.

By following these recommendations, Shea Body Butter will have the time to work its beneficial effects and its active ingredients of being well absorbed.

Can Eucalyptus Oil (decongestant) be used for sinuses, forehead, around the eyes and on the chest?
Eucalyptus Massage Oil is mostly recommended to massage the chest and the back.
Do not use around the eyes.
As for the forehead, I do not believe that it will be effective for the person must mostly inhale the fragrance, but there is no contraindication.
My baby perspires a lot, even after cleaning him an odour still persists, can Soothing Powder help him?
Yes, Soothing Powder will help keep his feet dry and reduce perspiration odour.
The product is not dangerous if ingested in small quantities. You should be careful when putting on socks or pyjamas after having put on Soothing Powder.
Can we use the Calendula Soap to wash baby's hair?
I don't see any problem in washing hair with the Calendula Soap but be careful not to splash any in baby's eyes.
At what age can we start using the Medicated Vaporizer in the baby's room?
I would avoid using it for babies under 3 months. As a precaution, you should also avoid spraying directly above the child.
What are the ingredients contained in this product?
The Medicated Vaporizer is composed of: thymol, menthol, camphor and eucalyptus oil.
